"She left me with my younger sibling when I was 11 years old. I remember backing my sibling as my mum left us. She told us everything would be fine as she left," the 24-year-old said.

Ndolo said his mother left home following a fallout with her husband, who had another wife before Ndolo's mum.

She had been threatening to leave because of disagreements with her husband, but she had had enough, and when she left, she never looked back.

I was still young, Ndolo

"I was still young, so I could not understand what was happening or ask questions. I knew at the back of my mind she would return after she left us behind. I watched her boarding a motorbike as she left, never to make any contact again," the father of one said.

Ndolo became a subject of ridicule back in school since he could barely take care of himself, and the househelp they had was not diligent.

He would go to school with dirty clothes, and his peers would laugh at him and mock him because of his sorry state.

"Some would say I don't have a mother and laugh at me. They did not know the situation back home, which made me heartbroken and discouraged. It was tough because the environment was toxic," he added.

Years passed, and the doting father decided to look for his mother despite not knowing where to start.

He took it upon himself without burdening any other family member to search for his mother, for closure and peace.

Kamba music stations to seek help

"I talked to a few people, including some media stations, to assist me in spreading the news to better my chances of finding her. One of the local stations was very supportive and was willing to go the extra mile to help me reunite with my mum," the man living in Wote, Makueni county said.

Not long after, good news broke: Ndunge had been identified, and her location was confirmed. Ndolo was happy and nervous as he prepared to go to where his mother lived, not knowing the outcome.

"It was a moment of mixed emotions after hearing the news, but I was ready to reunite with my mum. I have been waiting," he said.

Musician travels to Kilungu to search mother

He travelled to Kilungu, where his mother was, full of anticipation that all would be well and they would reconnect as mother and son.

Ndolo said his mum could not recognize him at first as it had been a while since they saw each other, and her son had a new hairstyle.

"It was heartbreaking when she asked me who I was, but I vividly described myself and my background. When she learned who I was, she could not hide her tears. We cried. I did not ask many questions about why she left, but I was happy to meet her after so long," Ndolo said.

The talented singer said his mother remarried and had another son in the new neighbourhood she moved to.

He was not bothered by the new family arrangements as long as his mother was alive and kicking.

"That's the only joy I longed for, nothing else," the delighted young man said, adding he kept in touch with his mum.
