Governor Jonathan Bii orchestrated a gathering on Monday, August 7, to address the matter that has driven parents and students to stage protests within the county.
During the discussions, a young girl, Mercy Tarus, seized the spotlight, captivating numerous Kenyan observers with her audacious stance while addressing the officials.
Mercy Tarus wanted accountability from leaders
She fearlessly pointed out their repeated deceitful behaviour, smiling and assuming an air of innocence while fully aware that the affair was nothing more than a fraudulent scheme.
Mercy is a graduate, and in an emerged TikTok clip, she explained how the lack of employment led her to do menial jobs.
In the video, she showcased her hairdressing prowess as she plaited a woman's hair.
In the clip, she said:
"You can see where I'm working at. I do hairdressing, and on the weekends I sell porridge and mandazi. If I go to a bank ata kama ni wewe would you give me money really? This is highway robbery in broad daylight. You are stealing from us and using the government. The power that has been given to you and the protection to steal from us.
They might come for my life, but now how can you have something to live for when your dreams are being crushed by the very same people you elected. I was not being rude. I just wanted accountability from the leaders. I wanted to look Barorot in the eye and have him tell us the truth. I wanted to ask them, Mr Mandago, Mr Bii, and Mr Barorot do you know the name of the parent that had been hospitalised?"
Kenyans say Gen Zs are courageous
Netizens lauded the courageous Mercy for speaking truth to power and exposing the alleged deception.
Her passionate speech, delivered with a blend of frustration and determination, struck a chord with those in attendance and garnered widespread attention on social media.
