Murang'a - Police in Maragua have launched an investigation over an incident where a 47-year-old man allegedly killed his wife following a disagreement of KSh 3,000.

What suspect's mother told Maragua police officers

Maragua division assistant commissioner Joshua Okello confirmed the reports, adding that the suspect was arrested as the investigation continued, Nation Reported.

According to Okello, preliminary investigations showed the suspect beat his wife, identified as Wanjiku Njambi, to death while locked inside their house on Saturday, August 19.

"Neighbours are reporting that the two were heard arguing about bhang proceeds. The husband was heard saying the wife had misappropriated the cash and wanted it back. There are witnesses, who include the suspect's mother, who are saying they volunteered to refund the cash, but he would hear none of it," Okello said.

After the argument, there was silence in the house; however, around midnight, the suspect allegedly hired a motorcycle and transported Njambi, unconscious, to Maragua Level Four Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

"The husband was referred to Maragua Police Station to book the death. He took the body to the station and said he had collected it from a nearby banana plantation. He was issued with an introductory letter to take it to Murang'a county mortuary," Okelloa added.

At the mortuary, he strangely booked the body as a stranger and that he was only acting as a Good Samaritan.

Residents rioted for two days, accusing the area police of cover-up, forcing the police to arrest the suspect as the probe continued.

Police said the suspect is a well-known drug peddler who has been in and out of jail for dealing in illicit brew and narcotics.

Bungoma pastor arrested for killing wife

Gerald Kamanga Gichohi, a pastor at Victory Centre in Bungoma town, allegedly killed his wife, Margaret Wanjiku Kamanga, before dumping her body in a ditch.

Bungoma County Police Commander Francis Kooli revealed that the suspect texted his younger brother, informing him of his offence, NTV reported.

The text message details the suspect's transgressions and plans to take his own life.

“At around 22.35 hours, we got a report from the suspect’s brother that he had received a suicidal text message from his elder brother. The message also had details of his wife’s murder,” Kooli said.
