Nairobi - Governor Johnson Sakaja's ambitious Dishi na County programme has received a significant boost from the French government.
Sakaja: How many students are under Dishi na County plan
Speaking at Olympic Primary School in Kibra, Sakaja revealed that the French government had pledged KSh 160 million towards the school feeding programme.
Sakaja, accompanied by the French Minister of State for Development, Francophonie, and International Partnership, Chrysoula Zacharopoulou, said the funds will go towards ensuring children get a nutritious meal.

“We are grateful to the French Government because they have committed to support us in this program to the tune of €1 Million, which adds to the KSh 1.7 billion shillings we have provided as Nairobi County government and will help us continue subsidising meals for the children,” he said.
The first-term governor said the feeding program, implemented in phases, has seen 88,000 enrolled.
According to the City Hall boss, the target is to enrol 250,000 pupils in public schools by the first term, 2024.
"Already we more that 88,000 children eating, by next week 198,000 under the programme and by first-term next year there will be 250,000 eating," he added.
How much parents will pay for Dishi na County
Nairobi County Secretary Patrick Analo said the county will distribute subsidised nutritious meals to all children in public primary schools and ECD centres.
Analo said under the programme, parents will be paying KSh 5 for every pupil.
"The balanced meals will be available for KSh 5 to parents, making Dishi na County's lunch meals affordable," Analo told TUKO.co.ke.
Analo further said the program had huge health and educational benefits for all vulnerable children in Nairobi County.
"This initiative will increase learners' enrolment in school and boost their concentration in class, which will, in turn improve performances," added the county secretary
Adding:
"The Dishi na county school feeding program will be implemented through an innovative 3 staged approach to scale up lunch meals delivered, logistics and technology to ensure the County delivers the highest quality of food and service to children."
