Nairobi - With exactly four days to the inaugural Africa Climate Summit (ACS), the government has announced the temporal closure of four Nairobi City roads ahead of the event.
Which Nairobi roads will be closed?
In a statement seen by TUKO.co.ke, the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) listed the affected roads.
"The following roads will be temporarily closed for three days due to the upcoming African Climate Summit, to be hosted by President William Ruto from September 4-6 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC)," the statement reads in part.

️The roads will be closed from Monday, September 4 at 2 am until Wednesday, September 6 at 6 pm.
️The affected roads are;-
1. Harambee Avenue from Parliament Roundabout to Taifa Road Junction.
2. Taifa Road from Harambee Avenue Junction to City Hall Way Junction.
3. City Hallway Junction from Holy Family Basilica Roundabout to Taifa Road Junction
4. Parliament Road from Harambee Avenue Roundabout to the City Hall Way Roundabout.
"️Significant traffic congestion is expected on several other main roads due to the prioritised accommodation arrangements for the 30,000+plus international delegates," the statement further reads.
Hotels, and parking areas for Africa Climate Summit guests
According to KICC, 58 hotels have been designated to accommodate VIPs, delegates, and participants.
KICC said that a majority of the hotels are situated along key routes such as Mombasa Road, Waiyaki Way, and Limuru Road which may also affect traffic on the mentioned roads.
"️Some delegates will be hosted in hotels along Thika Road and Ngong Road with these two busy roads also mapped for temporary traffic hitches," the statement reads.️
Parking spaces earmarked for the function are; The Sunken parking near KenyaRe, Supreme Court, Holy Family Basilica, and Charter Hall. All these will be closed for public use, according to security planners.
Event organisers revealed that Matatu Welfare Association has confirmed that Public Service Vehicles (PSV) will remain in operation in conjunction with the police to guarantee that the expected disruptions do not inconvenience the Nairobi residents.
"️You are urged to adhere to the advisories issued by the police to avoid traffic congestion during the summit dates.️ Plan your schedules accordingly," reads the statement.
When is the Africa Climate Summit?
Earlier, TUKO.co.ke reported that the event, which will start from September 4-6, with the Opening Plenary of the Ministerial Segment of the Africa Climate Summit and Africa Climate Week, will focus on the theme, 'Driving Green Growth and Climate Finance Solutions for Africa and the World'.
According to the African Union (AU), this is also an opportunity to showcase Africa's green growth potential and explore financial and development solutions for a climate-resilient Africa.
The event will convene African leaders, and one of the outcomes will be a commitment to take to the global Summit, including the upcoming COP28 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
