Nairobi county- A man caused a hilarious scene in the courtroom after pleading with the magistrate to convict him.

Adverse effects of economy

At the expense of seeking clemency, he told the court that life was unbearable with the dismal economy, and thus being confined to jail would work for him given he would be accessing the food availed by the state.

He is a resident of Utawala on the outskirts of the Nairobi city centre.

The man told the court that he had attempted to end his life by throwing himself into a water body but was rescued and apprehended.

He said being jailed would prevent such occurrences in the future.

"Please allow me to be jailed and live. I would rather stay in there and have food because I have tried taking my life, and it is not good. I just want to be preferred charges and be taken inside. I will cooperate with the prison officers," he said.

He told the court that he didn't have a family and was not in a position to fend for himself.

Kakamega man pleads with court to jail son

In other news, a Kakamega father who testified in court that he was tired of his son's bad behaviour pleaded with the magistrate to jail the latter.

The father, identified as XY, appeared before Kakamega resident magistrate Caroline Cheruiyot and told her he had tried to correct his son's behaviour but his pleas fell on deaf ears.

He claimed his son committed petty offences such as stealing his money and household goods.

The enraged man also accused his son of skipping school.

The offence he alleged he committed was stealing a cow valued at KSh 12,000 alongside another suspect in the Shigondo area.

"Your honour, I seek assistance from this court to help me correct my son's manners. I have tried my best in vain. He has brought shame to the family by stealing someone's cow," XY implored.
