He claimed that Nyaguthii might have been sexually assaulted before her body was dumped a distance from their homestead.
"Today, we received some shocking news about a young girl who was ambushed on her way from the shop. It is alleged that she was raped and then her body dragged in the nearby napier grass plantation," he told Citizen TV.
Nyaguthii last seen walking home
James Karuo, another resident, described the young girl as soft-spoken and rarely got on the wrong side of most locals.
Karuo narrated that he still has the image in his mind of when he met the girl walking home in the company of her mother, only to be told that she was found dead.
"As neighbours, we are very upset because that girl is not mean to anyone; she had just entered college. Even I saw her yesterday in the afternoon when she was going to the shops, and we bumped into each other. But her mother was there too, and I greeted her and greeted the girl. Then, when I heard about the incident in the morning, I was very surprised because that's the image I had of her when we met," he stated.
The locals have urged the police to step up their patrols even as they commence investigations into the incident.
The police took Nyaguthii's body to the Nyeri County Referral Hospital's morgue.
