Canadian rapper Tory Lanez has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for the shooting of fellow musician Megan Thee Stallion in 2020.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office told CNN was sentenced on Tuesday, August 8.
Torry Lanez found guilty of shooting Megan
The news outlet reports that in December of last year, a Los Angeles jury found Lanez guilty of three charges related to the July 2020 shooting of fellow rapper Stallion in the Hollywood Hills.

Lanez had pleaded not guilty to assault with a semiautomatic firearm, carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharge of a firearm with gross negligence, according to prosecutors.
The jury convicted him on all three counts.
Stallion accused Lanez of shooting her in the foot after she exited a vehicle they had been riding in following an argument.
At a press conference following the sentencing on Tuesday, LA County District Attorney George Gascón explained how Lanez attempted to “silence” Stallion after she accused him of shooting her in 2020.
“Over the past three years, Lanez has engaged in a pattern of conduct intended to intimidate Stallion, silence her and keep her from defending and bringing her truth out,” Gascón said.
He added:
“Despite the physical violence, verbal attacks and attempts at public humiliation, Stallion remained strong and shared the events of that fateful night with the jury and the world."
What Megan Thee Stallion told court
Guardian reports that on Monday, August 7, Megan testified in court that the shooting had left her devastated.
"Since I was viciously shot by the defendant, I have not experienced a single day of peace. Slowly but surely, I’m healing and coming back, but I will never be the same," she said in a written statement that was read in court.

@juliethardt:
"He was out. Megan was not gonna press charges, but he chose to run his big mouth and brag about it. A hard lesson learned."
@takecarehours:
"She wasn’t your friend when you was dissing her in your music and made her a laughingstock for the entire world."
MrBeastfunny:
"That’s real sad actually I hope he gets help in there."
Prosecutors want Tory Lanez to get 13 years
Prosecutors had called for the 30-year-old Canadian rapper to be sentenced to 13 years in prison.
According to Billboard, the prosecutors argued that a sentence of less than 13 years would "endanger public safety" and "not be in the interest of justice."
They concluded by citing the shooting and what they claim happened next: "a campaign to humiliate and re-traumatise the victim."
“The defendant actively invited harassment of the victim by spreading misinformation to his large following in an effort to galvanise the public against the victim and even the prosecution team without any regard to the dangers it posed... The defendant has weaponised misinformation to his large following to such a degree that it has left a lasting traumatic impact on the victim.”
