Upon assuming office, the head of state asked public servants to abandon their political hangover and deliver on the government's policies.
In a bid to stamp his authority, the president has been making changes in his administration aimed at ensuring that he fulfils his pre-election pledges to Kenyans.
If approved by the House for the position, Ingonga will succeed his former boss Noordin Haji who Ruto appointed as the head of the National Intelligence Service (NIS). Haji had served in the capacity for five years.
Ingonga was among 15 applicants shortlisted for the job by a seven-member selection panel chaired by Solicitor General Shadrack Mose.
Who were the other DPP nominees
Former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioner Thomas Letangule, Francis Andayi, lawyer Danstan Omari, Taib Ali, Jacinta Nyamosi, Victor Mule, and Tabitha Ouya were among the individuals shortlisted.

What is Renson Mulele Ingonga's career like
Ingonga has extensive experience in criminal law, with a particular focus on corruption and economic crimes.
He has been serving as a senior assistant director of public prosecution, a position he was promoted to in 2022.
Mulele was based at Garissa as the local in charge of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
He is currently the Head of North Eastern Area and the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Unit at the ODPP. He is also a certified mediator and arbitrator.
TUKO.co.ke previously reported that some of the politicians allied to President Ruto had trust issues with Haji following his appointment as the NIS director a month after he started his stint.
The former DPP took over the reins at the intelligence service on June 14, after the end of General Philip Kameru's tenure.
Why Ruto's allies wanted Haji sacked
In a meeting at State House, Nairobi, the Kenya Kwanza leaders alleged Haji was spying for the opposition, adding that he had been striving to broker a truce between the president and Raila Odinga.
Besides Raila, the leaders claim Haji has close ties with the retired president Uhuru Kenyatta.
"It should be known that Noordin Haji has been spotted with Raila Odinga and Uhuru Kenyatta. He ought to decide whether he is a politician allied to Azimio, or he is a public servant," one of the politicians is quoted by Taifa Leo as having said.
They also asserted that the opposition had got the government off guard with its deadly mass action protests due to the complacency in Haji's docket.
The leaders wanted Haji to be summoned by both the National Assembly and the Senate for a dress-down. Some wanted him removed from the office.
