Nyeri- Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has apologised to President William Ruto after arriving at the Sagana State Lodge late.

Coming days after, the head of state locked several members of the Executive, including Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki, out of a crucial State House event over lateness.

Speaking at the state lodge on Sunday, August 6, Kingi explained he left Wilson Airport hoping to arrive at the Nyeri function in 40 minutes, but an unexpected hitch delayed their flight.

"We ended up taking over an hour, as the pilot had to make manoeuvres and rerouting before we arrived here. At some point, I thought I was going to die. The history of the chopper in this country, especially in August, has not been the best. That is why we came late," he said.

On his part, MP Kimani Ichung'wah joked that Kingi showed up late to the president function at Sagana State Lodge, less than a week after Ruto blocked CSs Kuria and Kindiki from state house for showing up late during the signing of performance contracts.

"I am guarding my job, if I am late, I would rather run," he said.

Video of Kimani Ichung'wah running emerges

On Saturday, August 5, a video of the majority leader sprinting to work, seemingly late for an important meeting emerged and amused social media users.

Dressed in a grey suit, the outspoken Kikuyu MP sprinted through the empty halls as he looked from side to side; one would think he was expecting something.

Many social media users were also equally astonished by what many considered a first in the Kenyan political landscape, as politicians are stereotypically known to be in no hurry to deliver to wananchi.

Well, this is until Ruto happened.

Ruto locks out late officials to state house

On Tuesday, August 1, the president barred government officials who arrived late to the contract signing event from accessing state house.

During the performance contract signing event at State House, the head of state said he would want a written explanation from the lat state officers.

A furious Ruto said it seemed most government officials had been taking the event as a ritual; hence their lateness to the event.

The president said for the members of the Executive who were locked out, including Interior Cabinet Secretay Kithure Kindiki and his Trade counterpart Moses Kuria, the traffic should not be an excuse.
