Nairobi - The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party led by Raila Odinga has demanded justice for Uasin Gishu County Finland scholarship scandal victims.

ODM demands justice for scholarship victims

On Tuesday, August 22, the Orange party claimed the scholarship scam reflected a broader corruption trend within President William Ruto-led Kenya Kwanza political circle.

“The Uasin Gishu student airlift scam is a grave violation of the public trust. The ODM Party unreservedly condemns the actions of the former governor and underscores the belief that this incident is not an isolated occurrence but rather a reflection of a broader trend within the William Ruto-led Kenya Kwanza political circle," ODM said.

ODM said the scandal raised questions about the integrity and accountability of public officials, particularly those entrusted with leadership positions.

The party called for a speedy and impartial investigation to uncover the truth and bring justice to the victims.

Raila-led party said the former Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago should be held accountable over the KSh 1.1 billion scholarship scam.

“It is imperative that the perpetrators of this deceitful scheme, including former governor Jackson Mandago, be held accountable for their actions. The affected families are not only deserving of restitution but also desire to see the rule of law upheld and justice served,” the party added.

What Ruto said about scholarship saga

Meanwhile, President William Ruto warned Uasin Gishu leaders embroiled in the Finland scholarship scam to return the money they defrauded the parents and students.

Coming at the back of disquiet in Uasin Gishu due to the scam in which Senator Mandago is implicated, Ruto said those who embezzled money belonging to the students should take accountability.

Speaking in Eldoret on Wednesday, August 16, the president said that when investigations are done, those guilty of squandering the money will also face the consequences.

"Investigations are ongoing. Whoever squandered this money should be ready to return it. Nobody should be cajoled; everyone must get their money back. After investigations are done, I will see how we can help those students affected by this. Those who swindled the cash should be held accountable," the president said.
