According to the leaked communication, the president's first-born son Jomo, his wife Fiona, former first lady Margaret Kenyatta, Muhoho Kenyatta, and Ngina Kenyatta are among those expected to travel to the UK on August 2, 2023.
Former governor Mike Sonko was among those who shared the official letter on social media.
Azimio blogger Pauline Njoroge, who also keeps Kenyans updated on the affairs of the former president, confirmed the letter's authenticity after calling out the foreign affairs ministry.
"In a very unprofessional move, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs shared with bloggers a Note Verbal containing travel details of former president H.E Uhuru Kenyatta and his family. Mind you this a private visit, privately financed," she said on Facebook.
Uhuru hints at vacationing with family
On Monday, July 24, Uhuru, in a meeting with senior journalists in Nairobi, also hinted at going on vacation with his family.
"I have been at peace. I have never had a good family time as I wanted. In fact, I want to go on vacation with my children. Do not say I have run away. I need rest and they need me. I have never been available," he told the editors.
He said this while condemning the raid at his son's home, an incident he said left him extremely hurt.
Uhuru said his sons own six guns adding his daughter Ngina is not a firearm holder, further alleging that the state wanted to plant guns at his son's compound.
"I believe they wanted to frame my son with narcotics and guns in his compound. My son Jomo applied to own a gun after his security was withdrawn. I encouraged them to apply, and they followed the due process. They went to the DCI, and even their fingerprints were taken before being issued with the licences," he said.
