  • Police officers Benson Kitheka Mutisya and Kennedy Muriuki Gathathu were arrested alongside two other accomplices

Kiambu - Two police officers attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kamukunji have been arrested in a gang wreaking havoc in Kiambu.

Police officers Benson Kitheka Mutisya and Kennedy Muriuki Gathathu were arrested alongside Mutenge Mbeti and Lewis Ndirangu Kariuki as they were on their way to engage in a suspected act of robbery.

The police were first made aware of the gang's activities on Monday, July 31, after they ambushed a third-year Machakos University student named Robinson Mogaka.

Mogaka said in his statement under OB No. 37/31/07/2023 that the gang demanded to know where he was headed and asked to tag along.

Upon reaching his friend Abdulrahman Juma's house, they reportedly handcuffed him and took him to a petrol station in Marurui, forcing them to fuel their vehicle.

"On reaching Kenyatta Road in Juja, he was blocked by a white motor vehicle registration number KCX 965B. Three men armed with a pistol handcuffed him and forced him to take them to his friend's Abdulrahman Juma house, which he did.
They also handcuffed him and took them to Total Petrol Station in Marurui, where they forced them to fuel their vehicle. They transferred KSh 85,000/- from Robinson's phone and another KSh 611,632 from both complainants through Binance online transaction," read the police report seen by TUKO.co.ke.

Gang returns to rob Abdulrahman

The police said they received a report from the public that the gang was again planning to allegedly rob Abdulrahman, giving them time to set up a sting operation that led to their arrest.

"Today the, 2/8/2023, following a tip-off that the said people were again going to Abdullrahaman's house, DCI officers laid a trap and arrested four persons, among them two police officers, both of DCI Kamukunji," the police said.

Kitheka was found in possession of a Jericho pistol and a pocket phone radio.

Two motor vehicles make, Toyota Auris, registration number KCX 965B and Volkswagen Polo, registration number KCC 501S were impounded to aid with investigations.

GSU officer arrested for robbing man

In other news, police arrested another GSU officer in connection to a robbery with violence incident along Kamiti Road in Kasarani.

In the Friday, May 26, incident, three men on a motorcycle physically accosted a man, identified as Paul Maina, and robbed him of his Oppo mobile phone.

According to a police statement seen by TUKO.co.ke, the three were armed with a pistol. Police, who were on foot patrol, responded swiftly to Maina's distress call.

With the help of boda boda riders, the officers pursued the suspects up to Juja weighbridge, where the suspects' motorcycle developed a mechanical problem.

In the process, the police managed to arrest one suspect Graham Ndichu Chege. Surprisingly, Chege alleged he was an officer from GSU headquarters, transit section.
