Lottery enthusiasts had been eagerly following the jackpot's growth, which had been accumulating over months.
The last Mega Millions jackpot win occurred on April 18 in New York, making this recent victory even more monumental.
The jackpot winner now faces a significant decision – to opt for annual payments spanning 29 years or to receive a lump-sum payment.
In addition to the historic jackpot winner, other participants in Tuesday's drawing also had reason to celebrate.
Two tickets, sold in Florida and North Carolina, secured a substantial KSh 284 million ($2 million) prize by matching the first five numbers and utilising the Megaplier option.
This feature, available in most states for an additional KSh 142 million, can enhance winnings.
Furthermore, five tickets matched the first five numbers without the Megaplier, resulting in prizes of at least KSh 142 million ($1 million).
These fortunate tickets were sold in California, Pennsylvania, Texas (with two winners), and West Virginia.
"Congratulations to the BIG $1.58 Billion #MegaMillions jackpot winner in Florida. California is still celebrating because a lucky ticket sold at Super Mac Food & Gas in Hilmar matched five numbers missing just the Mega number earning $3,383,371. And not just that, there were 1,018,280 winning tickets, big and small from just this draw.
Thank you to all our players for continuing to support our mission to provide supplemental funding to California public education. #CaliforniaForAll #CALottery."

Separately, a Chinese man who won a KSh 4 billion lottery jackpot in 2022 has decided not to tell his wife and child about his fortune.
The man, known only as Mr. Li, claimed his prize in Nanning, the capital of Guangxi region in 2022.
Mr. Li told Fortune News that he did not want his family to know about his windfall because he worried they would lose their motivation to work or study hard.
