Kirinyaga - President William Ruto has been on a five-day development tour of the Mt Kenya region.
The head of state visited the region with a bag of goodies as he commissioned various projects whilst giving more promises to the region that voted overwhelmingly for him in the August 2022 General Election.
During his tour of Kirinyaga on Saturday, August 5, the head of state said his administration would prioritise improving the health sector.
He said his government would work with the county administration to encourage community health promoters.

Ruto disclosed that in the affordable housing programme, every 100 houses would have a medic on standby to cater for people's health needs.
"We have discussed medical matters will be from bottom to top. We have discussed matters concerning community health promoters, where Governor Anne will pay them half of the salary, and I will pay the other half.
We have decided that for every hundred households, we will have one nurse. The nurse will make visits, measure blood pressure, check blood sugar levels, and if you have a flu, they will give you Piriton before you even go to the hospital. There's no need to create congestion at the hospital for just a flu," he said amid cheers from the crowd.
Ruto says Kenya to stop importing shoes
The head of state said it was also regrettable that most of the skin from Kenyan animals was being used to feed the dogs.
Ruto pointed out that this could be used in the tanning industry to make shoes and, at the same time, create employment.
He declared that in the next two years, Kenya would stop importing shoes, adding that the local industries would supply the market and create jobs.
"I have given you two years. After two years, no shoes will be imported, we will be manufacturing shoes here in Kenya," he said.
Murang'a farmer gifts Ruto goat
In a separate incident, Ruto was in one of his many stop-overs gifted a goat by a farmer who Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro gave a chance to speak to the crowd.
He got to thank the president for what is said is delivering on the many promises he made during the last year's presidential campaigns.
In a video shared by Dennis Itumbi, the man used the opportunity to counsel the president against any handshake or any other form of a political truce between him and the Opposition leader Raila Odinga.
