The same was also confirmed by Emannuel Talam, the state house's press secretary.
Various quarters had their respective versions of speculation as regards the president's upcoming address.
Given that the state address came a day after the president the riot act to his Cabinet members, some quarters argued the president might announce a reshuffle of his Cabinet.
Others believed the president would be coming to update the nation on the state of bi-partisan talks between the government and the Opposition, considering the matter has been the subject of discussion in recent days.
The invite to the media did not bear the details of the presser.
Mutahi Ngunyi's counsel to Ruto
Meanwhile, political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has advised the head of state to start terrorising his Cabinet Secretaries.
Via Twitter, Ngunyi told the president to consider firing a CS or even a PS for no reason after he raised concern over the capacity of some bureaucrats to hold their respective dockets.
"The moment I know more than you in your ministry, then you must begin to understand that something is very wrong. Because you are supposed to advise... how are you going to advise me if you have less information than I do? I call many PSs and ask them what is going on... they have no clue... and this is your department. That is the job that you have," Ruto had said.
Now having diagnosed the problem in his docket, Ngunyi wants the president to 'reign terror' in the national executive.
"Dear Ruto: Keep your ministers in suspended terror. Be unpredictable. You should occasionally fire a minister or PS for "..no good earthly reason"," Ngunyi posted on his official Twitter handle.
The political commentator gave an example of former University of Nairobi vice-chancellor Stephen Mbithi whom the late president Daniel Moi fired on the radio.
"Moi fired Mbithi unceremoniously after they had spent a whole evening reshuffling the Cabinet. There was no reason. Just terror," said Ngunyi.
