The Suffolk County Police Department is conducting a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragedy and whether any charges will be brought.
“Approximately eight hours later, the woman went to pick up the child at the daycare, located on Redwood Lane in Smithtown, when she realised she had left the child in her vehicle,” police said.
Dad forgets to drop baby at daycare
SDeparately, a 14-month-old baby was found dead in a vehicle at a company parking lot in France after his father forgot to drop him at the daycare before proceeding to work.
According to the Daily Mail, the hapless infant suffocated to death as a result of the sauntering summer heat.
This is due to the fact that many parts of southern France have recorded high temperatures and wildfires this past week, hitting 22C.
"Initial investigations suggest that the young child died of suffocation and dehydration," public prosecutor Cecile Gensac told the media.
Details indicate the deadly error was brought to light when the child's mother noticed that the little one had not been at daycare that day.
She raised alarm and sought help, but by the time emergency services arrived, it was past 5pm and attempts to resuscitate him were in vain.
The baby's body was taken to the local morgue for a postmortem to determine the actual cause of death.
