President William Ruto has stopped a journalist from asking him about the fresh truce talks that the government is set to hold with the Opposition.

Coming just hours that the Kenya Kwanza team unveiled its team leads for the planned mediation talks, the president immediately interrupted the journalist who attempted to pick his brain on the discourse.

During a presser at State House on Wednesday, August 2, after he gave the journalists a chance to ask him questions, he was seemingly unwilling, unable to speak on the truce talks with the ODM leader Raila Odinga-led Opposition.

At the exact moment that TV47 news anchor Grace Kuria mentioned that her question was about the peace talks, the president stopped her from taking the discussion in that direction, saying:

Taking to her Twitter, Grace also responded to a tweep who wondered why the president ignored her question.

Kenya Kwanza's team leads in truce talks

The president's flat refusal to answer the question came just hours after Kenya Kwanza unveiled its five-person team to lead the talks.

In a statement on Wednesday, August 2, Ruto appointed National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah as the team leader.

The Kenya Kwanza Alliance team will also comprise Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot and Governor Cecily Mbarire.

Others are East African Legislative Assembly Member (EALA) Hassan Omar and Bungoma woman representative Catherine Wambilianga.

The Kenya Kwanza reiterated that their team will only engage the Azimio counterparts on five issues.

On the other hand, the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party also named its five representatives to the talks with Ruto's team.

In a statement, ODM leader Raila Odinga settled on Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to lead the 5-member opposition team.

Other team members include former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, National Assembly Minority leader Opiyo Wandayi, Nyamira senator Okong'o Omogeni and Amina Munyasi, MP Malindi.
