Nadia's adoption
Before Ruto walked into the life of his adopted daughter Nadia Cherono and turned it around for the better, she had gone through a harrowing experience.
In September 2016, Ruto was in Machakos county when he visited the Madre Ippolata Children's Home.
During the visit, the then-deputy president came across a young Nadia. He learned that she was found abandoned by her biological mother soon after giving birth before Good Samaritans rescued her.
Via a Facebook post, the 55-year-old announced that he had adopted Nadia and christened her with his mother’s name, Cherono.
Nadia's sister Charlene's strong online presence
Unlike Nadia and her other siblings, Charlene Ruto has been building her online and public presence.
Since her father became the first in command, Charlene has been making countless visits around the country, supporting causes close to her heart.
In May 2023, Charlene narrated how she had to be aggressive before her father allowed her to lead the youth empowerment initiatives.
She disclosed how she approached her father about being passionate about youths' issues.
"Never did my father come to me and say do this. I went and told him, Babaa, I am passionate about the young people in this country, allow me to work with them and support what they do," Charlene said.
