"My mother abandoned me after she had delivered my sister. My sister was two days old when our mum walked out on us. I was left alone to care for the poor and helpless baby," she told Afrimax English.
Giving crying baby water instead of milk
Caring for her young sister Fillette was heavy on her as she could barely care for herself at such an age.
Whenever Fillette would cry, since Solange had no milk, she would give her water, hoping things would get better.
"It was difficult for me as a kid raising another baby. During the nighttime, she could cry, and grandma would chase us out of the house, saying we were making noise," she added.
Seeking menial jobs to provide for sister
Solange tried to seek menial jobs, but because of her age, she could not be employed and had to look for other ways to make a living.
She shared that her mother would check up on them occasionally but would not help them in any way.
Fillette, who grew up to be a beautiful girl, said she considered Solange not her sister but a mother as she raised her.

In other news, a Form Three student was forced to care for his siblings after their mum died and their father left.
Victor Ogonda endured a harsh life since the death of his mum in 2010 and abandonment by his father five years later, as narrated by Afrimax English.
The young man from Vihiga county struggled to balance his studies and giving care to his two younger siblings, who were in primary school.
Despite the challenges, the high school pupil at Friends Emanda Secondary School was among the best pupils in the learning institution.
