Tribalism is a social problem that affects many people in Kenya, especially when it comes to love and marriage.
A young man from Western Kenya has shared his heartbreaking story of how his girlfriend dumped him because of his sub-tribe.
Situma Raphael, a journalist and video director, told TUKO.co.ke that he had been dating Georgina, a Tiriki woman, for seven months.
How tribal hatred ruined love story
He said they had a good relationship until she found out that he was a Bukusu, a sub-tribe of the Luhya community.

Situma said he had concealed his tribal identity from Georgina because he knew she had a strong dislike for Bukusus.
He said he loved her and did not want to lose her over something he had no control over.
"When I approached her, she accepted my request, but before I gave my full details, she disclaimed that she couldn't date a Bukusu man and I had to hide that from her so as not to lose her," the video director said.
However, his secret was exposed in November 2023 when Georgina realised he was a Bukusu.
She was furious and accused him of lying to her. She ended the relationship and cut off all contact with him.
Situma said he was devastated and tried to explain to her that he was still the same person she had fallen in love with, but she would not listen.
He said he did not understand why she hated Bukusus so much since they were neighbours and had a lot in common.
Why does Georgina hate Bukusus?
TUKO.co.ke reached out to Georgina to hear her side of the story, but she was brief and blunt.
She said she could not date or marry a Bukusu man because she did not like them. She did not give any specific reason for her hatred except that it was her personal choice.
"I can't get married to a Bukusu man. I don't like them," she said.
Man leaves lover for being too spiritual
In a separate love story, a man dumped his former girlfriend for being too spiritual and fasting a lot and married another woman who seemed more practical.
This was after his wife got ordained as a pastor.
His cousin shared the story on X, writing:
"My cousin broke up with his ex-girlfriend because she's too spiritual and loves fasting too much. He met another girl and they got married 3 years ago, his wife just got ordained as a pastor last week. I haven't stopped laughing since."
