How did Kenyans react?
Despite the Kenyan government's efforts to provide affordable housing solutions in Nakuru, concerns arose over the perceived high costs, particularly for individuals in lower-income brackets.
Netizens noted that pricing may still pose a barrier for those with limited financial means.
TUKO.co.ke sampled some comments:
Senior counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi opined:
"Few Kenyans just don't want most Kenyans to own homes."
@JoelKamiru wondered:
"Which hustler will afford the 10% deposit, and you people think it is a good idea? I repeat Kenyans have an income problem, not a housing problem."
Carol Nyaga noted:
"A two-bedroom for KSh 3.15 million in Nakuru is not affordable by any standards."
George Kim commented:
"Those living in slums can continue doing so considering they can’t part with KSh 3 million…Thought affordable housing was meant to solve the housing crisis in major towns."
@Briankariu added:
"Houses built with our own taxes are being sold to us above market rate."
Why William Ruto vowed to defy courts
Ruto declared war against corrupt judicial officers, allegedly derailing his development agenda.
Ruto said the housing and Social Health Insurance Fund programmes were constitutional and no one should stop them.
This followed court orders declaring the housing levy unconstitutional and halting the implementation of SHIF.
