Nairobi - The Ministry of Education has announced student scholarships for 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) students joining secondary schools.

In a statement, the ministry said the scholarship, offered through the Jomo Kenyatta Foundation and the Equity Group Foundation, targets needy and vulnerable learners who scored 280 marks.

"The Ministry of Education through the Jomo Kenyatta Foundation (JFK) and Equity Group Foundation is awarding Secondary School Elimu Scholarship in all 47 counties to needy and vulnerable learners who attained 280 marks or above in the 2023 KCPE examination," the statement read.

Who is eligible for the Elimu Scholarship?

The ministry said learners from vulnerable and marginalised groups who scored above 250 marks are also eligible for the scholarship.

The programme will also benefit learners who sat their 2023 KCPE exams in refugee camps and scored above 240 marks.

"For affirmative action, candidates with special needs and disabilities who have attained below 280 marks will be eligible. Leaners from vulnerable and marginalised groups with 250 marks and above are also eligible. Refugee learners, both girls and boys from camp-based schools who attained 240 and 250 marks, respectively, will also benefit from the scholarship programme," the statement added.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Education, the scholarships are meant to enable the beneficiaries to cover school fees, transport, and school kits.

"The scholarships cater for school fees, transport to and from school, school kits, and a stipend (pocket money) for the beneficiaries for the four-year education period," the ministry said.

How to apply for Elimu Scholarship Programme

All interested candidates have been urged to download application forms from the Ministry of Education website, www.education.go.ke, and submit filled-out forms before December 28.

"Duly completed application forms, including supporting documents, should be submitted either online or to the nearest subcounty education office, by 5.0pm on December 28, 2023. However, refuge learners forms can also be submitted to the office of the Camp Manager in KAkkum and Daadab," the statement read.

Kenya Pipeline Company announces scholarships

Elsewhere, Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) announced several scholarship slots for needy students seeking to join secondary schools nationwide.

In a statement on Thursday, December 14, KPC opened applications for 94 scholarship slots targeting students who sat their KCPE in 2023.

KPC said the scholarship is being offered under their corporate social investment arm under the INUKA Scholarship Programme.
