Singer and pastor Size 8 has disclosed how she started in music, praising Calif Records' DJ Clemo for giving her an opportunity that set her on the path to success.

The singer, who recently revealed that she used to be an unrivalled twerker back in the day, said that her life was not so glamorous when she started.

"I used to work in Calif Records. I was the cleaner there."

She explained that she took on the job because she did not have the funds to facilitate her commute to the studio.

Moreover, she did not want to burden Clemo, who already supported several upcoming artists financially.

"I noticed that Clemo used to help people a lot. He used to give money to people. Clemo has a father's heart, so he used to help upcoming artists that he signed, and there were many. So I told him, 'I don't want you to strain. Give me a job here at Calif Studios, and then the salary you'll pay is what I'll use as fare to come to the studio.
"I told him I'd be cleaning, washing, cooking, making sure everything was in order in the studio, helping out with the paperwork... and then he used to pay me KSh 6,000 a month. So at least I'd get my fare from there," she elaborated.

Surprised by her revelation, Oga Obinna said that she must have been well off after acquiring the job, adding that KSh 6,000 was a lot of money back in the day.

However, the Mateke hitmaker refuted that, stating that from her salary, she would take out 3000 to pay rent at her parents' and use the rest as fare.

"The rental house we lived in cost KSh 7,500...my parents' house. I started paying my father's rent when I was quite young. My sisters and I used to contribute and pay the rent. So when I would earn my KSh 6000, I would give KSh 3, 000 for rent, and then my sisters would top up the rest. The remaining KSh 3,000, I'd use for fare and then used to eat bhajias worth Ksh 10 at lunchtime."
