Nairobi - Attorney General Justin Muturi has stated that President William Ruto's government has obeyed all court orders.

In a video shared by Citizen TV, Muturi explained that President Ruto's government obeyed all rulings, including those that did not favour them.

"I have seen some people saying William Ruto's government does not obey court orders, there is not a single one that has not been obeyed even when we disagree, even when we do not like those judgments, but we obey the court orders," Muturi said.

Promoting constitutionalism

The attorney general said the government was in a bid to promote constitutionalism that would bring peace and harmonious coexistence to the country.

"We have been obeying all the orders because we must promote constitutionalism in the country. That is bringing peace to the country because elections will come and go. When an election is done, allow Kenyans to continue with their lives. We cannot be especially involved in politics," he said.

Respect electoral outcomes

He advised election contenders to accept the outcome of every election to avoid politicking and giving the government in place to work.

"If you disagree because of an electoral process, there is no need to engage in violence. There are mechanisms provided for in the constitution to challenge any electoral result, but at the same time, we must be prepared to accept the decisions that our courts make," the attorney general said.

Muturi opined that democracy in Kenya is the best because all other forms of governance are disadvantageous to the common mwananchi.

Public participation in CAS appointments

A case that brought a constitutional headache was the appointment of Chief Administrative Secretaries (CASs).

President Ruto sought public participation in his plan to create the CAS position in his government.

In a press release on Wednesday, September 21, the Public Service Commission said the president had proposed establishing the CAS positions per Article 132(4)(a) of the constitution.

"The PSC has invited members of the public to submit their views on the proposed establishment of the position of CAS. The views in writing should be addressed to the Secretary, Public Service Commission, P.O. Box 30095, 00100, Nairobi or hand delivered to the Commission’s offices at Commission House, not later than October 6, 2022," Antony Muchiri, PSC chairperson, said in the press release.
