Nairobi - A CCTV clip has shown the terrifying moment that a detective attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations was gunned down.
The victim, who has been identified as police officer David Mayaka attached to Makadara DCI, was shot by thugs riding on two motorcycles; the incident happened on the night of Tuesday, August 8.
The officer sustained serious injuries on his abdomen, and he was in the company of his 30-year-old wife, who also sustained a gunshot wound on her thigh, according to a police report.
By the time the police arrived at the scene of the accident, the sleuth was writhing in pain while lying next to his vehicle, where he had been shot.

Chilling CCTV footage
A distressing CCTV footage is also emerging, and it shows how the officer was killed in cold blood as his wife screamed for help to rush him to the hospital.
In the clip also shared on YouTube, the victim's vehicle was seen beside the road at Fishers of Men Church Along St. Michael- Boston Road in Mihang'o.
The first few minutes of the footage are uneventful as Mayaka is seen beside his stationary vehicle.
However, in the second minute, a motorcycle carrying people who would later be identified as the killer thugs is seen near the vehicle.
They go to the rear side, where the police officer and his wife are. The gunshots are then heard as the merciless thugs unleash terror on the officer and his wife.
Filled with shock and disbelief, the officer's wife is seen screaming frantically, calling for help as she watches her husband take his last painful breath.
After a few minutes of screaming, several cars are seen stopping near the scene of the killing as the woman tries to explain to the passersby what had transpired.
A small crowd of motorists and boda riders mill around the crime scene. A police vehicle also appears, but shockingly, it drives off despite the woman's cry for help.
"Help us, please. I am also hurt! We have small children. Help us," she says, trying to tell the leaving police vehicle that the one who was shot is one of them.
However, her cries fell on deaf ears as the police vehicle sped off.
Machakos man stabs ex-lover in supermarket
This came just a couple of weeks after CCTV footage emerged on social media and showed the moment that a man stabbed a woman after an argument in the supermarket.
The CCTV footage showed the man dressed in an orange hoodie seemingly having an altercation with the woman presumed to be his lover, and when she tried to leave his presence, he pulled her behind.
In the video shared on Twitter, the pair's argument went on for a few seconds as the woman could not leave the man's presence, and though she tried to pick a few items from the shelf, their argument persisted.
After quickly looking around to see if anyone was checking him out, he stabbed the lady with an object that seemed like a sharp knife.
