"My wife, Prof. Janet Kassily Barasa, and I were privileged to host H.E President William Ruto at our home in Harambee, Matungu Sub-county. We are deeply grateful for his gracious acceptance of our invitation and for sharing a meal with us as he concluded his Western tour," he said.
Leaders present included Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Speaker Moses Wetangula, Governor Kenneth Lusaka, Paul Otuoma, Ayub Savula, and Francis Atwoli.
Others were MPs led by Oscar Nabulindo and Kakamega MCAs. Cleopas Malala was also present.
Ruto's warning to sugar cartels
During his tour of the region, the president reiterated his commitment to reviving the Mumias Sugar Company.
The president said he would not entertain any sugar cartels standing in the way of his plans to revive the sugar industry in the region.
Speaking in Bungoma county a few days ago, the head of state said he is ready to jail the dubious dealers in the sector, further asking them even to leave the country.
"We have already told all these people to leave! This company belongs to the people, and we plan to revive it as we entertain nobody. I have already given them three options; they either leave the country, I jail them, or they travel and go to heaven," the tough-talking president said.
