This week, Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago skipped the official opening of the biennial devolution conference.
President William Ruto opened the conference even as detectives in the cosmopolitan county arrested Mandago over the Finland scholarship scandal.

1. Susan Kihika takes on Raila over US remarks
As the devolution conference got underway in Eldoret, Nakuru governor Susan Kihika blasted ODM leader Raila Odinga over his threats to initiate the recall of US Ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman.
The Nakuru governor angrily termed remarks of the former prime minister as very unfortunate, particularly his choice of words.
Kihika said it was perhaps the right time to tell the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party leader to equally shut up and retire from active politics.
According to the outspoken governor, the ODM leader should have praised Ambassador Meg for marketing Kenya instead of rebuking her over her remarks regarding the 2022 presidential elections.
2. Jackson Mandago arrested over Finland scholarship scandal
Also this week, immediate former Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago was arrested in Eldoret town over the controversial Finland and Canada scholarship programme.
The arrest came a few hours after a Nakuru court issued an arrest warrant against Mandago and three other officials.
Citizen TV reported that Mandago was arrested at his residence and carted off to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations regional office in Nakuru.
After failing to appear for a plea taking, the court issued the warrant for the outspoken Uasin Gishu senator.
3. Beatrice Elachi spills the beans on why Raila losses elections
Also, Dagoretti North MP Beatrice Elachi revealed why ODM leader Raila Odinga has always failed to win the presidency in his previous attempts.
During an interview on K24, Elachi pointed out that leaders who are supposed to help Raila win are never always serious about the ODM leader becoming the president.
According to Elachi, most leaders only use the name of the former prime minister to win elections and not him winning.
"Baba knows that sometimes we just play on him, many times we are not serious about him being president, we just use him for us to get our positions and after that we are done," said Elachi.
4. Kiambu Man Who Set Himself Ablaze in Mombasa Dies
Ad the week entered the homed stretch, a youthful man that was captured on camera setting himself ablaze in Mombasa passed on.
The man who has been identified as Robert Gituhu, 27, a resident of Kirangari village in Kiambu tried hurt himself near the Coast Bus Offices in Mombasa Central Business District.
TUKO.co.ke established that the deceased was a graduate of mechanical engineering from the University of Eldoret in Uasin Gishu county.
Gituhu's uncle Samson Gituhu told TUKO.co.ke that his nephew was missing for about three days before the incident that led to the loss of his life.
5. Kenya Ranked 2nd Best English Speaking Country in Africa
A report by EF English Proficiency Index ranked Kenya as the second-best-speaking country in Africa, after South Africa.
The 2022 report also ranked Kenya 20th globally, with Nairobi City emerging 19th on the list of cities with the best English-speaking people.
As for how countries in East Africa faired the global and regional scope, Uganda emerged the fifth in Africa and 55th globally.
Tanzania emerged seventh and 63rd globally, while Rwanda emerged 18th and took 107th globally.
