Despite confirming his attendance, the PM cancelled the visit at the last minute, raising eyebrows among diplomatic circles.

Pakistan's caretaker, Minister for Information Murtaza Solangi, attributed the cancellation to other pressing issues at home.

"Due to unavoidable pressing engagements at home, the Prime Minister will not be able to travel to Kenya, and this has been communicated to relevant Kenyan authorities," Murtaza Solangi

However, the sources claimed the unresolved murder of investigative journalist Arshad Sharif last year could have played a part in the move by the PM to cancel his visit to Kenya.

In Nairobi, the prime minister was scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Africa, including Kenya, and other high-level dignitaries.

2. The Standard

Former prime minister Raila Odinga has slammed President Ruto over his climate change crusade.

The ODM leader criticised Ruto's Kenya Kwanza Alliance administration for being dishonest in addressing climate change issues.

Raila gave an example of the recent move by the government to lift the six-year ban on logging, which he argued had led to the destruction of forests.

He stated that it was ironic for Ruto to claim to be a champion for climate change when his government was indirectly taking part in the destruction of forests.

"Kenya will be hosting the World in Africa Climate Summit in Nairobi, but how can we talk about climate change when logging in our forests, such as the Mau Forest has been allowed?" Raila posed.

3. People Daily

The paper reported on a historic ruling by three Court of Appeal judges, who reduced the sentencing of a woman found guilty of stabbing her adopted mother 42 times.

Judges Jamila Mohammed, Luka Kimaru and Aggrey Muchelule, the court reduced Benedict Njoki Gachinga's sentence from 30 years to 12 years.

In their ruling, the appellant judges Njoki’s sentence argued that the initial verdict was harsh and excessive.

“We reduce it to twelve years’ imprisonment from the date of conviction,” they ruled.

The judges considered the circumstances under which Njoki committed the offence, noting that when she learnt of her adoption, she became angry that she had been kept in the dark all along.

“She ran away from home to go and look for her real mother. It is not known whether she found her before she returned home. She is a girl who changed secondary school four times. She was a discipline case. She was on and off in counselling sessions. She tried salvation. She was angry and restless,” said the judges.

Njoki allegedly attacked her adopted mother, Esther Wangari Kanuri, 64, at Kihuyo village in Nyeri County after discovering she was not Wangari’s biological daughter.

She was adopted when she was three years old after her real mother abandoned her, but she was never informed about the adoption until she discovered it on her own.

4. The Star

The publication reported on the uproar caused by an earlier statement by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka regarding Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party recognising Ruto as the president.

The statement by the former vice president was dismissed by his Azimio co-principal Martha Karua, who said the claims were untrue.

Kalonzo refuted claims that Azimio recognises President Ruto as a legitimate president.

In a statement, Kalonzo said his words were taken out of context regarding the current regime's legitimacy.

"I have noticed that a section of the media has in the last few hours misquoted my recent statement on the state of affairs in our country. Particularly on the legitimacy of the current regime," Kalonzo said.

Kalonzo argued that through the National Dialogue Committee, they will be able to audit the 2022 presidential elections and settle the matter of the legitimacy of the Kenya Kwanza government.

5. Taifa Leo

The Swahili publication highlighted the infighting within the ODM party regarding Raila's succession plan.

Siaya senator Oburu Odinga ignited the debate after endorsing National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi as the best politician to take over Raila's position.

Speaking on the development, Wandayi` said he remains a loyal student of the ODM leader and that he was passionate about social justice, just like the former prime minister.

"It must be understood that I am a political student of Raila Odinga. I am passionate about social justice and democratic governance. I am driven by the desire for an equitable society. Therefore, I can never shy away from saying things as they are," said Wandayi.

Other politicians mentioned as a possible successor to Raila's political throne include EALA MP Winnie Odinga, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Rarieda MP Otiende Amolo and Homa Bay governor Gladys Wanga.
