According to the CS, security personnel from the Nyangoro Forward Operating Base (FOB) responded promptly and engaged terrorists who were approximately 60 in number.

"Security personnel from the Nyangoro forward operating base who were conducting clearance patrols along the highway responded rapidly and an engagement with the approximately 60 terrorists ensued scattering them into the Boni Forest," he added.

Among those who were attacked include Hindi MCA James Njaaga and his wife, who were reportedly taking their daughter to the hospital.

Form 3 student among those killed in terrorist attack

A little over a month ago, suspected al-Shabaab extremists also attacked Salama and Juhudi villages, killing five people brutally.

In the 7pm incident, that occurred on Saturday, June 24, the militants dragged the victims from their houses and tied their hands and legs with ropes behind their backs before executing them. They would then burn five houses.

Among the victims of the attack was Barack Hussein, a Form Three student at Bakanja Secondary School.

Hussein's aunt Pamela Akoth Ogutu said the over 30 assailants were armed with guns, pangas, and knives and donned military regalia.

During the attack, Ogutu said they ordered them to lie down without screaming. After killing the five and burning houses, the attackers made away with some food items, chicken and goats.
