Murang'a county - President William Ruto was in one of his many stop-overs gifted a goat by a farmer who Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro gave the chance to speak to the crowd.

Ruto is in the Mt Kenya region for a five-day working tour, which he started on Saturday, August 5.

The local with the help of his area MP got the chance to address the president to the face.

"Mr President, as Murang'a youth, with are happy with you for doing so much for us. There is no way we can pay you. You have removed us from CRB, you have lowered fertilizer prices for us and also gave the Hustler Fund," he said.

The man used the opportunity to counsel the president against any handshake or any other form of a political truce between him and the Opposition leader Raila Odinga.

He went ahead to gift the president a goat and some pieces of fresh maize in cobs.

"We want to gift you a goat and maize...We are saying, if there should be a dialogue, then it should be via phone and it should be about him (Raila) going to Bondo," he said to an animated crowd there.

Throughout the day, the president sustained tirades on the Opposition leader Raila Odinga whom he said he won't engage on any power-sharing deal.

Both the government and the Opposition are warming up for a dialogue to end the political dispute in the country.

Raila's condition to Ruto

Meanwhile, Raila has issued a 30-day ultimatum to Ruto over the oncoming talks.

He said he had given the dialogue stewarded by former Nigeria leader Olusegun Obasanjo a month to discuss the select issues, failure to which he will resort to "drastic measures."

Speaking in Siaya, the Opposition chief said his side was ready to engage with the Kenya Kwanza side in the talks.

"I have said that as Azimio la Umoja, we are ready to talk, we will talk, and we will give those individuals thirty days to talk. After 30 days, if they remain adamant, I will issue another directive. However, we have provided an opportunity, facilitated by Kalonzo Musyoka, for those from the other side to engage in dialogue," Raila told mourners at the burial of David Omondi, a protester who was shot dead during the now-suspended demos.

The former prime minister threatened that Kenyans would recoil to demos if the Ruto side posed a challenge to the talks.

"We are talking without conditions; they should also not impose conditions on us. But if they are not willing to engage and agree to what we want, then after 30 days, Kenyans will take different actions."
