Makueni - Usawa Kwa Wote Party Leader Mwangi Wa Iria is now calling for the initiation of a self-determination process that may lead to splitting the country into two.

The former Murang'a governor said if the ongoing Bipartisan talks between the ruling Kenya Kwanza administration and Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition fail, the country should be divided into two.

Speaking in Emali on Tuesday, August 15, where he joined other Azimio leaders for the funeral service of Brian Malika Mwendwa, who was shot dead by the police during the recent anti-government protests, Wa Iria decried the segregation and discrimination of a section of Kenyans because they did not vote for the President William Ruto and DP Rigathi Gachagua led regime.

“If the Kenya Kwanza team in the Bipartisan talks continues to chest thump instead of being objective, then we can as well shut down the process and split this country so that, the so called ‘shareholders’ remain with their company, and we can have a chance to form our own government that protects the ordinary mwananchi,” said Wa Iria.

Speaking exclusively to TUKO.co.ke on Wednesday, Wa Iria said that the right of every society to self-determination is well protected by International Laws.

“No one is interested in a nusu mkate as Kenya Kwanza claims. The so-called ‘shareholders’ have already shared the entire bread between themselves, leaving out the rest of the country. The only thing we can ask for is the splitting of Kenya so that every citizen gets a government they feel comfortable in,” the former Murang’a governor said.

The UN Charter and resolutions

Chapter 1, Article 1, part 2 states that the purpose of the UN Charter is:

"To develop friendly relations among nations based on respect for the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples, and to take other appropriate measures to strengthen universal peace."

The ongoing peace talks between Azimio and Kenya Kwanza were initiated following the brokering of a truce between Ruto and Azimio Leader Raila Odinga which was spearheaded by former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The truce followed weeks of opposition-led endless mass action that threatened to bring the country to a standstill.

However, the talks appear headed for tough tides, with each side taking hardline positions. The teams from the two sides of the political divide are yet to agree on the talks' common agenda days after the process was initiated.
