On this day in August 2021, Nairobi writer Diana Mosoba received a call that would leave her with a void in her heart forever.
She was informed that her brother, Sunny Mosoba Orangi, died after a Nakuru accident.
Sunny had wedding in April
In April of the same year, just four months earlier, Diana had been in the same city for her 30-year-old brother's wedding.

She told TUKO.co.ke that she had worn a scandalous black dress during Sunny's wedding because she likes to be rebellious.
Diana explained that the dress had a long cut at the front, the back was bare, and it hugged every curve of her body; a day that she danced like a maniac.
"August 2021, I was in Nakuru for Sunny’s burial, only this time I cried like a maniac," she recalled emotionally, adding that the brother left his wife when she was pregnant.
In her darkness
Diana expressed how much she loved her brother, which is why Nakuru for her has since remained the place that took a special part of her away.
"One minute he was in church and the next second, he was mangled in his car because a trailer had hit him, taking his life with it, driving away with his last breath," she said.
Diana recalled the events of the day she went to the morgue to view Sunny's body and how the sight left her speechless.
The grieving sister says her legs lost strength, and she fell on the cold morgue floor and wailed, adding that at that moment, she felt like her heart was throbbing out of her body.
Hole in Diana's heart
Death does that to someone; I felt like there was a literal hole in my heart, a hole no one or nothing can fill, a hole of loss.
"That hole came to life again, because I felt it in 2014 when my sister died, and now I was feeling it again because Nakuru had taken Sunny," mourned Diana.
According to her, wounds from death don’t heal; they burst open with memories, moments, and wishful thinking.
Apart from that, the wounds burst open with every unanswered question, and they've broken her in ways that nothing can mend.
"Every time I bury someone that I love, I bury them with pieces of me, and I have buried a lot of pieces of me. Parts of me that I can never have back. This is me, in my darkness," she concluded.
Jeremy Orr mourns girlfriend
In an almost similar story, a man named Jeremy Orr lost his girlfriend named Mel, a development that left him deeply heartbroken.
As part of mourning, he shared photos of the days the couple spent memorable moments together, each with a caption of the events.
Jeremy described his late girlfriend as a girl who loved and gave more of herself to him despite having been broken over and over before.
"Although I am completely and irreversibly broken, I am so grateful that I loved a girl who loved me hard," he mourned.
