"This chicken got a successful surgery," she captioned the video.
In the video, the chicken is then put under anaesthesia and intubated, with feathers around its chest area taped back to expose the surgical area.
The surgery targeted the chicken's crop, a small pouch where ingested food is temporarily stored before moving to the digestive system.
How was the recovery journey?
The surgical team carefully opened the crop, removing food and fibrous materials, and then cleaned, stitched, and bandaged the area.
Later, the chicken recovered remarkably as it mingled with other chickens.
Grabbly Farms, a poultry-related resource, indicated that such surgeries are sometimes necessary when a chicken suffers crop impaction.
Crop impaction occurs when material stored in the crop becomes stuck and cannot pass through to the oesophagus leading to reduced appetite, weight loss, and depression in poultry.
Grabbly Farms notes mild cases of crop impaction can be addressed with gentle massage and hydration techniques. Still, surgical intervention becomes necessary in severe cases.
