Nyandarua - Authorities have launched a manhunt for Nyandarua OCS over alleged extortionist claims.
This is after the senior cop, Kinangop OCS Chief Inspector Walter Obegi escaped arrest by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives.
Obegi is accused of demanding KSh 100 000 from a local trader as a "business protection fee".
EACC has now asked the Kinangop North sub-county Police Commander to pursue and apprehend Obegi, who escaped arrest by detectives on Tuesday, August 8, over the bribery demand.

"The sub-county commander is to escort the fugitive OCS to the Commission's Central Regional Offices in Nyeri for processing," EACC said in a statement.
How Obegi conned the trader
According to EACC, the OCS fled from EACC detectives pursuing him following investigations into a complaint that he demanded the KSh 100 000 bribe from a local businessman at Engineer Town in Nyandarua County as a condition for allowing the trader to enjoy ’business protection’ and run his businesses in the town ‘smoothly’ and ‘uninterruptedly.’
"His junior, Police Corporal Donald Obare Onyango who had been assigned by the OCS to receive the money from the complainant was apprehended and booked at Njambini Police Station," EACC further said.
The anti-graft agency said Onyango had received KSh 60 000 on behalf of the OCS, being part of the demanded bribe of KSh 100 000. The OCS had already received an initial deposit of KSh 30 000.
"The law requires EACC to deal with all forms of corruption and will continue to do so. It is not only criminal but also immoral for public officials to use the very offices they hold in trust for citizens to extort money from them," EACC further said.
Ahmednasir Abdullahi defends Kasarani cop
In a related story, TUKO.co.ke reported that city lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi came to the defence of embattled Zimmerman OCS, who was arrested after she solicited a bribe to release a pregnant woman from custody.
Taking to his official Twitter handle on Friday, July 28, the revered lawyer said that all Kenyans of goodwill, led by Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome must fight and stop "this malicious and discriminatory scheme that targets the police".
Ahmednassir demanded the immediate release of the officer urging the anti-graft agency to go for the big fish.
