"Let me make it clear once again that I am not suspended. Otherwise, I would not be here. This is a precinct of Parliament. To clear the air, I am very active and I continue to fight for women’s rights," she explained.

She said that she was impressed by the success stories coming out of the four-day summit.

"The fact that resources are actually trickling down for me I think that is the biggest success of devolution. I know we have the issue of pending bills but the fact that mwananchi can feel government at the grassroots level is a success," Orwoba explained.

Who moved Orwoba's suspension motion

Earlier, TUKO.co.ke reported that Orwoba was suspended from Senate until February 2024 over alleged claims that she made on the Senate WhatsApp group.

During the proceedings on Thursday report by the Committee on Powers and Privileges on an inquiry into Orwoba's conduct was tabled in the Upper House.

According to the report, Senator Shakila Mohamed, who moved the motion to adopt the committee's report, told the House that the nominated lawmaker made several damnatory allegations that she could not substantiate.

Mohamed said, for starters, Orwoba made accusations of sexual favours in Parliament by posting various messages on the Senate Business Whatsapp groups on diverse dates.

What were other accusations against Orwoba

Secondly, the senator was also accused of making allegations of favouritism and discrimination, which she could not substantiate.

"The Senator, on diverse dates, made unsubstantiated allegations of discrimination in Parliament by posting various messages at the Senate Business WhatsApp groups and made allegations during a media briefing held in the media centre main Parliament building," Mohamed told her colleagues.

Orwoba, according to the committee, also made accusations of kickbacks and corruption and also posted disrespectful messages to senators on the Senate business WhatsApp group.

The committee found the senator was in breach of Parliamentary Privilege. It recommended that the Senator be suspended from the House for the remainder of the second session of the 13th Parliament.
