Mzungu YouTuber Kino Yves has become a sensation after his videos of exploring Kenya and interacting with locals went viral.

However, not all his experiences have been pleasant, as he has been overcharged more than once.

Overpriced ugali matumbo

The first incident happened when he visited a local eatery in Kibera, where he ordered ugali matumbo.

He was shocked when he was charged KSh 700 for the meal, which normally costs between KSh 120 and KSh 200 in such places.

He paid the bill but later realised he had been ripped off by the owner.

The second incident occurred when he passed by an art gallery in Karen.

How persuasive seller convinced Mzungu YouTuber

He had no intention of buying any art, but he was curious about the prices and decided to ask the seller.

The seller, who was desperate to make a sale, persuaded him to buy at least something from his collection.

He showed him various art pieces, ranging from KSh 5,000 to KSh 50,000.

Yves was not interested in any of them and said he only came to buy food.

"Just buy something, my friend. I have not sold anything since morning," the seller pleaded.

He said he did not have enough money to buy expensive things.

"I only came here to buy food. That means I won't buy food. I didn't carry enough money," Yves said.

The seller then asked him to name his own price for a small art piece, which he initially quoted at KSh 5,000.

"My price will be low. You are already packing. I give you KSh 2,000," Yves said.

The seller laughed and asked him to raise it to KSh 4,000.

Yves still did not have that amount, and they finally settled on KSh 3,000. Yves bought the tiny art piece.

Netizens reacted to the video of the art gallery encounter and praised the seller for his convincing power.

Many also noted that Yves was overcharged again.

Here are a few comments:

@_RMuthoni:

"Man is going to whisper in his ears to avoid a ban in the market."

@gakul:

"Man capped it off with some little French. He's good at this."

@DiMacharia_:

"Rule no of staying in business. Learn how to sell."

@daudimaga:

"From 5k to 3 and my guy pockets a clean 3k profit. Legit business."

Kibandaski offers apology to Yves

The kibandaski owner apologised to the content creator, noting that times were tough.

They asked Yves not to take the encounter to heart and even offered him a free meal.

"It was KSh 120, but he is the type to eat at Serena hotel... Because of the economy, that is why it happened like that. You took things as if I overcharged you, but I am saying sorry if you are feeling overcharged. Don't fear. Come back before leaving Kenya. On that day.I will give you free food (sic)."
