Nairobi - A junior government employee attached to the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) is on the radar of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over the supposedly fraudulent accumulation of wealth.

Daniel Munywoki Wambua, an accountant at the state agency, accumulated KSh over 21 million banked in three different accounts.

The anti-graft body secured orders from the court to freeze the accounts in the course of its probe.

Unexplainable KeRRA official's KSh 21m

Munywoki is believed to have partaken in corruption malpractices such as the dissipation of public funds, conflict of interest, bribery, and abuse of office to accumulate the said wealth.

The EACC wants the court to grant its prayer of having Munywoki's accounts held for at least six months to; allow investigators enough time to carry out their work and also prevent transfers or withdrawals.

His accounts currently hold KSh 15 million, with the EACC preliminarily establishing that the embattled accountant opened an account with Equity Bank through which he transacted the said monies, NTV reported.

As per the EACC in the court papers, Munywoki deposited over KSh 1.7 million in the account in under three months, this being above what he earns in a year.

The EACC also told the court that in June, he transferred KSh 5 million to his third account still under Equity.

City Hall employee in trouble

Similarly, the court recently sanctioned the freezing of assets valued at KSh 537 million owned by a City Hall official.

The estate comprised ten vehicles and nine prime tracts of land in Siaya and Kisumu counties.

Anti-corruption court's Justice Esther Maina issued the ruling on Wednesday, May 24.

The official in question was Michael Auka Ajwang, a Nairobi County Purchasing Officer.

Ajwang' could not convince the EACC about the source of his wealth, prompting Maina to give the verdict.

He has also been barred from transferring and disposing of the said properties.

"Pending the hearing and determination of this suit, a temporary injunction is issued restraining the defendants/respondents by themselves, their servants, agents or any other person from demanding KSh 99,000 seized pursuant to a search conducted by the plaintiff/applicant in miscellaneous criminal application number E1773 of 2022," Maina ruled.

The orders would remain in force until the case was fully heard and determined.
