A group of morgue attendants from Kisumu calling themselves The Pretty Morticians have come out guns blazing against Inspector General (IG) of Police Japheth Kome.

This is after the IG controversially claimed that they had intelligence of Azimio la Umoja leaders hiring bodies in morgues.

According to him, the opposition leaders leased the bodies from morgues and called the media to claim the police killed them during protests.

Koome maintained that the police had a mandate to protect property and lives, adding that threats from the opposition would not distract them.

"The information I have is that they go to mortuaries, compromise the workers, their; people who died of some illness, maybe an accident. They take photographs of such bodies and blame them on the police," he said.

Morticians unhappy with Koome

His sentiments, however, seem to have rubbed morticians the wrong way as they lamented that the claims taint their image.

Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, the morgue attendants maintained that they are professionals who do their work as is stipulated.

"We highly respect the dead and we do not trade with the dead. It was very disheartening and disrespectful of the IG to claim that we were compromised," one of them named Achieng said.

She reiterated that the police service should be answerable to the goings-on and "carry their cross" without dragging their profession through mud.

Her sentiments were reiterated by a male mortician named Jacob Mbai who stated that Koome should respect mortuaries and the profession.

"Mortuary institutions have professionals and ethics that we abide. He should bring evidence to this allegations," he posited.

ICC threat won't stop us, Koome

Meanwhile, Koome reiterated that National Police Service (NPS) would continue to discharge its mandate without being distracted by politicians.

He said the NPS had a role to play in securing the country and protecting people's lives, and not even the threat of being indicted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) would stop them.

"As the National Police Service, we have a role to protect life and property. We have a responsibility to ensure this country is secure and safe," he noted.

His sentiments came at a time the opposition is threatening to hold fresh anti-government protests.
