The administration of AIC Nyayo Girls School in Machakos is appealing for help from the government or well-wishers to alleviate the perennial water shortage.

Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, board member James Nyamai Katungwa disclosed that the situation was dire and that urgent action is needed.

Water shortages disrupt learning

Nyamai explained that the lack of a steady water supply had disrupted the school's routine and impacted the student's learning experience and overall well-being.

He added that the situation has grown increasingly concerning, hampering the school's ability to provide proper sanitation and hygiene facilities.

This raises concerns about the potential health risks posed to the students and staff, particularly in the context of the ongoing global health challenges.

The administration has been mitigating the crisis by rationing and exploring alternative water sources to get by.

School has 580 students

However, these measures have proven to be temporary solutions that do not fully address the magnitude of the challenge at hand.

For this reason, the administration is appealing to the government, local authorities, and individuals of goodwill to support them in overcoming its water challenges.

Nyamai underpinned the need for immediate intervention to ensure the health, safety, and education of the students.

"With a total population of 580 girls, we are asking any donors or organisation to help us sink a borehole," he said.

Apart from water, the school is also in need of a science laboratory for biology and chemistry as the current one is too small to serve the population.

Board member sponsored students to Mombasa

The plea comes one month after the kind-hearted board member sponsored five students on a trip to Mombasa.

Nyamai was inspired to offer the treat because the school gave him an opportunity to serve on the board as the youngest member at the age of 23. He is now 30.

The act of generosity gave the girls an unforgettable experience and instilled the virtue of working hard as only the top five students from the school received the treat.
