Nairobi - For the second day, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki monitored operations at the Immigration Department on Nyayo House.

The previous day, Kindiki directed that no person would be allowed to hang around the precincts of Nyayo House, and security officers would strictly enforce law and order and apprehend any person soliciting bribes from applicants for passports and other citizenship documents.

"The ongoing policy and operational reforms at Nyayo House will be extended to all immigration offices countrywide, to facilitate efficient service delivery. Zero tolerance to corruption is non-negotiable and all persons seeking services at the Immigration Department must be treated with courtesy," Kindiki said.

To streamline service delivery, the CS announced that emergency desks have been established to expedite the processing of passports for applicants seeking medical care abroad, students destined to learning institutions abroad, and persons who have secured job opportunities in foreign countries and have reporting deadlines.

Kindiki further said that expectant and lactating mothers, parents or guardians accompanying minors, the elderly, and persons with disabilities will also be accorded special attention at the immigration desks.

"As we work to address with finality, the production challenges through the acquisition of modern printing machines, recruit additional immigration officers, and improve the department’s infrastructure, all efforts and manpower have been deployed to clear the passport processing backlog within 14 days," he added.

Earlier, TUKO.co.ke reported that Kindiki toured Nyayo House to assess operations in the Immigration Department.

Kindiki was ushered into a queue of Kenyans waiting to be offered different services at the immigration department.

Why rogue Kenyans at Nyayo House should worry

The CS security and immigration officers diligently serve Kenyans at the immigration office.

"There are Kenyans, security officers, and immigration officers who are doing a good job, and I really applaud them and ask them to continue periodically serving their fellow citizens," Kindiki said.

However, he said he was alive because a few suspects were fleecing Kenyans while promising a speedup in the process of their travel documents.

"The truth is also clear that the public cannot be complaining in vain there must be a few among us who are soiling our name," he said.

He reiterated that the area was not available for corruption, and any individual found abetting corruption shall be arrested and prosecuted.
