Nairobi - Renowned activist Julius Kamau has accused political elites of using the ongoing bipartisan talks to protect their personal interests.

Why Julius Kamau was whisked away by police

On Friday, August 25, Kamau confronted the National Dialogue Committee members at the Bomas of Kenya and accused them of neglecting the common mwananchi.

In a video shared by journalist Seth Olale, Kamau is seen holding a placard written, "Colonialism never ended."

When the bipartisan team arrived, including Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Kamau confronted them and fearlessly told them that the ongoing talks were not about the cost of living but about the sharing of power.

"I believe these talks are not about the poor. They are about the rich. How they will share out power and how they continue using that power to protect their ill-gotten wealth," Kamau said.

He asked Kenyans to stand up and demand action from the leaders, arguing that people were dying because there was no one to listen to the issues affecting the society.

"We must be serious my people. Our country is on a very wrong path; we are perishing, and we are dying. We are suffering, and there is nobody to listen. There is no one to speak out for the poor. We must become human," he said, while following the leaders.

However, his protest was cut short as two police officers whisked him away after he attempted to continue following the leaders to their meeting room.

What Homa Bay man told Kalonzo at Bomas

In a related story, a Kenyan politely interrupted the address of Wiper leader and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wah as the two addressed the press about the status of the bi-partisan talks they are co-chairing.

On Monday, August 14, as Kalonzo addressed the press at Bomas about the agendas and structure of the talks, a Kenyan who was neither a member of the 10-team man nor a member of the press cut into the conversation.

The man, who identified himself as Michael Otieno, said he had travelled from Homa Bay.

With him, he said, was a memorandum containing what he and other Kenyans had discussed and wanted to be addressed by the committee constituting political leaders.

"As an interested party in the national dialogue based on the national principles of good governance and a patriotic citizen I had to pay my own coin to travel all the way here. We have our memoranda which we would like to submit to the committee.
"If you look at the committee it is made up of politicians. The dialogue in Kenya should be people driven, not leader-driven dialogue and the issues need to come from the people of the republic of Kenya," said Otieno.
