An elderly woman photographed wrapping her granddaughter with a leso for wearing ripped jeans is gaining admiration on social media.

Why did grandma cover woman?

Shared by Facebook user Wahome Thuku, the grandmother reportedly covered the woman with a leso for being 'indecent' during her visit upcountry.

"Wafunike kabisa cucu. Tumejaribu, tumeshindwa. Reminds me of an old lady who asked me why I was letting my daughter go out with worn-out trousers. She wondered if my family was in such a big financial hardship," captioned Thuku.

In the undated photos of a village, the two women can be seen relaxing over a cup of tea outside a home.

The bemused grandmother, visibly troubled by the woman's choice of dress, takes action.

She can be seen pointing at the 'torn' spots and ragged holes exposing the lady's thighs and knees.

As the grandmother wraps the leso around her waist, the woman, who has now put down her cup of tea, laughs.

Thuku's post was met with cheers from his followers, who lauded the grandmother for not letting fashion come in the way of decency and culture.

"A very good cucu. She had to stand up and cover up the girl properly, then sit down. Even after sitting down, she had to ensure that the leso was still covering up properly," reacted one.
"Courtesy demands that you respect the host's culture. The girl should have dressed well per the grandmother's customs, then reverted to her fashionable dress elsewhere. Grandmothers are not demanding, and we don't visit them daily, so it is a small sacrifice. My two cents," opined Snowie Snow.

Why did Ruto's mum cover journalist?

The grandma's move rekindles memories of the June 2023 incident where President William Ruto's mother, Sarah Samoei, also took matters into her own hands and covered a female journalist.

The journalist, a camerawoman working for one of the country's top television stations, covered an event where Sarah and other leaders issued title deeds in Uasin Gishu County.

Sarah was not impressed with the journalist's bodycon skirt that reached slightly above the knees at the public function. She grabbed a leso, walked to where the journalist was standing and wrapped it around her waist.

When she took to the podium to speak, Sarah pleaded with the journalist not to take offence, saying she did it to ensure she was comfortable with her work as her skirt was too short.

The journalist later left the function but returned wearing a green suit. She then walked to the dais where Sarah was seated, and the two embraced each other.
