In an astonishing turn of events, a North Carolina man has struck gold in the form of a whopping $1 million (KSh 145.4 million) lottery jackpot with an unusual strategy.

What motivated David to buy lottery ticket?

David Morris, a father of six, won the life-changing jackpot after he sought help from his children in choosing the winning numbers.

According to The Sun, Morris clinched the Mega Millions prize in the August 1 drawing, making him the lucky recipient of one of history's fourth-largest Mega Millions jackpots.

Despite not being a regular lottery player, Morris was drawn to the game after witnessing the jackpot grow to over $1 billion (KSh 145.4 billion).

On a whim, he purchased a Mega Millions ticket from a local 7-Eleven, investing around $20 (KSh 2,908) compared to his usual modest spending of about $6 (KSh 872) on tickets.

However, Morris's unique approach set the stage for his victory.

David asks children to contribute numbers

Rather than relying solely on luck, he turned to his children for inspiration.

The father of six requested his kids to contribute numbers for his ticket, and one of his sons provided the fortuitous combination that would change their lives forever.

Morris recounted that he only glanced at his ticket after hearing that the winning numbers had been sold in his vicinity and had not yet been claimed.

"I started hyperventilating. I called my wife at work and told her to come home right away," he confessed.

Morris is in disbelief at the win, and when asked if he ever expected to win, he had a strong answer:

"With my luck? No, no, I did not."

What does the couple plan to do?

The couple plans to utilise their newfound fortune to fulfil a longstanding dream: purchasing land in the Smoky Mountains, where Morris' wife spent her childhood.

After taxes, they can take home $712,501 (KSh 104 million) from the prize money, a substantial sum that can significantly contribute to their aspirations.

Although the astonishing win has brought a wave of contentment, Morris is not resting on his laurels.

He intended to continue participating in the lottery, aiming for the elusive billion-dollar jackpot.

"I will be up there playing until, you know, until somebody hits it. I mean maybe I might hit it," he remarked optimistically.

Nakuru man wins KSh 500k jackpot case against Betika

Back at home, a Nakuru court ordered Betika, owned by Shop and Deliver Ltd, to pay a gambler KSh 500,000.

Nakuru Small Claims Court Resident Magistrate Edward Oboge's ruling followed a case David Juma filed after the betting firm refused to pay out his jackpot, Nation reported.

The magistrate faulted the betting company for refusing to pay Juma his winning despite him correctly predicting eight matches on February 17, 2023.

In his ruling, Oboge dismissed the argument by Betika that the gambler had only predicted seven matches correctly.
